Cardiff City are a side who should not be in the position that they currently occupy, though performances have not matched their usual high standards this season.

The club took a big risk in appointing Paul Trollope in the summer, and it proved to be a poor decision as it seemed a job too big for the former Wales assistant coach.

Performances were poor, the squad morale was extremely low and they were firmly at the foot of the Championship table – all things that led to his sacking.

Players were seemingly unhappy with the running of the club, and the fans seemed to have waved the white flag in getting relegated to League One at such an early stage.

Since Neil Warnock has come in, the performances have picked up and the morale has rapidly increased, but there are certain players in the squad whose patience could run out and could seek a move to the top-flight.

The likes of David Marshall showed loyalty at the club for the past few years, but the prospect of a return to the Premier League was simply too good to turn down, and the same could happen with a few other members of the Bluebirds squad.

Football League World Writer, Ashley Williams identifies TWO players who need to leave to fulfil their potential..

Aron Gunnarsson

The Icelandic midfielder’s displays have now started to become noticed since guiding his native country to the quarter-final of the European Championships in the summer.

Gunnarsson has always been regarded as one of the Bluebird’s most important members, but his outstanding leadership with Iceland has perked up the ears of certain English clubs.

Aston Villa were one of the sides who were extremely interested in the Iceland captain, and there's always a chance that they may come back in for him in January to boost their chances of a top six place.

Craig Noone

When Noone first made the switch from Brighton to South Wales, the supporters really thought they had a quality player on their hands.

The winger easily guided past full-backs and was a constant danger during Cardiff’s single season in the Premier League.

Ever since they were relegated, Noone seems to have lost his spark and doesn’t look the same player.

Warnock has shown a lot of faith in him since arriving at the club in October, but his time could be running out at the Cardiff City Stadium and he may feel like he needs to move on to reignite his career.
