Birmingham City are certainly a club on the up under Gary Rowett.

After coming up just short in their play off challenge last season, they are once again making a decent fist of things in the Championship and competing with some of the bigger spending clubs so far.

Part of Rowett's success has been his ability to mix a blend of youth with experienced talent, and an excellent use of the loan market to boot.

The Blues have produced some quality from their ranks over the years. Nathan Redmond is a prime example and more recently Damari Gray has moved on and become a Premier League champion.

The current squad does have some talent in there, but is Birmingham the right place for them to fulfil their ambitions?

FLW writer Lee Connor takes a look at TWO Birmingham players who need to leave to fulfil their potential...

Reece Brown

20-year-old midfielder Brown is fast becoming one of the Blues' best young players, and has found himself firmly involved with the squad this season.

Brown is an accomplished midfield player, capable of filling in numerous positions. He shows a maturity in the game beyond his years and certainly looks set to have a bright future.

However, staying with the Blues might well hold him back if they cannot achieve promotion. With Brown already attracting Premier League attention, he might well choose to move on to fully embrace his natural talent.

Che Adams

The former Sheffield United man has taken to Championship football with ease, and the step up does not seem a problem for him.

Before his move to the St Andrews, Adams was linked with a host of Premier League clubs, and could well find himself moving swiftly on if his development continues as it has been.

Formerly of Ilkeston Town, a move away from Birmingham might seem a way away yet, but there is no doubting his talent. Former Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough should be credited with finding Adams in non-league, and the young striker certainly looks the part so far.
