It's fair to say Aiden McGeady has become a forgotten man at Sunderland.

The 34-year-old winger is firmly out of Phil Parkinson's first-team plans at the Stadium of Light, and is yet to feature for the side this season.

He did however make his first appearance for the club's under-23 side this week, the first time he's been seen in a Sunderland shirt for some time.

His future at the Black Cats remains up in the air and with January fast approaching, we could potentially see the Mackems attempt to shift the former Celtic player, but who would want to sign a player who has rarely-featured this season?

With this in mind, we ask the question, can you see any clubs in England making a move for the Sunderland outcast in January?

Not really, if I’m completely honest.

This isn’t exactly a player that has been thriving in a decent Sunderland side over the last couple of months.

We know all about his quality and I’d be surprised if there was anyone in the UK who didn’t know what the winger was all about.

However, I just don’t see a queue of clubs looking to offer him a chance away from the Stadium of Light unless something drastic changes.

The transfer window can be unpredictable and I wouldn’t rule McGeady out of a move somewhere else in the EFL completely, but who could you realistically see taking a chance on him right now?

Phil Spencer

There's no doubt that Aiden McGeady is a talented player, but his stock is falling.

After falling out of favour with Sunderland it would take a huge punt for a club in England to take a chance on him.

The 34-year-old is nearing the final few years of his career and so any club coming in would want him to hit the ground running - something that will be difficult given his lack of match action.

Perhaps someone will come in with a loan deal for the winger, but other than that I can't see an EFL club seeing a deal as viable in these uncertain economic times.

His best bet of getting some match action would be reintegrating himself in Phil Parkinson's plans.

Without a doubt, as he's still got a lot to offer.

The obvious issue with McGeady is his wages. He will be on a huge amount for a League One club, so that makes it difficult for those who want to take him, whilst Sunderland won't want to cover a big percentage of his wages for him to star elsewhere.

From a football perspective, there's no real debate. Even at 34, with his skill and ability, he could do a job in the Championship, so there will be interest.

For me, Parkinson needs to sort this mess out and get him in the team. He's good enough to start and the team need more creativity.
