Luton Town have endured a tough start to life in the Championship, taking four points from their opening five fixtures with them currently 19th place in the table, ahead of the visit of managerless Huddersfield Town this weekend.

One of the architects behind Luton's success last season was a certain James Collins, and there have been question marks over whether he can deliver in the Championship.

The 28-year-old has got his account up and running, who on the back of a promotion season, that saw him score 25 goals and be named League One Player of the Year at the EFL awards, has already scored twice in five Championship appearances.

So, how can Collins' start to life so far in the second tier with Luton be best summed up?

We discuss........

George Harbey

“It has been a tough start to life in the Championship for Collins, and I think most Luton fans will have probably seen it coming.

“Up until last season, he had never really been prolific in any league apart from League Two, and I was actually quite surprised that he scored as many as he did in League One last year.

“The Championship, so far, has proven to be a really difficult division for him, and my worry is that they don’t have that prolific forward up top who can score 20 plus goals to keep them up.

“Thankfully, they have goals in other areas of the pitch, but Collins will be urging himself to improve. He may have scored twice, but this division is ruthless.”

Chris Gallagher

"Like the team, he has settled reasonably well.

"All strikers are going to be judged on goals and two in five is a respectable return from the 28-year-old, so there can be no complaints about him on that front, even if he has been wasteful at times.

"However, when you watch Collins you realise straight away that his game is about much more than what he does in the box. He gives the Hatters an outlet with his willingness to run the channels and his work-rate is ideal for the high pressing football that the manager wants.

"Picking up their first win of the season at Barnsley last time out will have been a big relief and I expect Collins and his teammates will kick-on from that now.

"It's been a decent start and there's more to come."

Toby Wilding

"I've been pretty impressed so far.

"It may not be prolific by his standards, but two goals from five league games so far is a pretty solid return for a striker playing in this division for the first time in his career.

"The encouraging thing about that is that you imagine his record will only improve as he gets more accustomed to life in the Championship.

"With the Hatters themselves seemingly starting to find their feet at this level again, you imagine they will be hoping that Collins continues to do the same individually, given the importance his goals will surely have to their hopes of survival this season."
