‘There’ll be 40k fans turning up’ – Sunderland fans demand arrival after development

Sam Allardyce was sacked by Everton which has got Sunderland fans hoping.

The Toffees finished in eighth after Allardyce came in and helped salvage their season, but the owners are looking for a more ambitious manager to helm their project.

Allardyce is popular on the Wearside due to helping the Black Cats stay up in 2016, before taking on the England job, as well as playing for them from 1980 to 1981.

It’s understandable that Sunderland fans want an experienced manager in charge to mount their push back up the divisions under the new owners. However, Allardyce is highly unlikely to drop down two divisions even for a club he has a good relationship with.

His reputation for avoiding relegation means that Premier League clubs are usually interested in him when they have just sacked a manager and are under threat of going down. This is what he has built his managerial career on recently. Other managerial targets such as Mick McCarthy and Chris Wilder are a lot more likely to join Sunderland than Allardyce.
