Cardiff City were handed an early FA Cup exit, after the Bluebirds failed to pull off an upset over Premier League leaders Manchester City at The Cardiff City Stadium.

First half goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling ensured the game was beyond Neil Warnock’s side by half time, with the former Sheffield United and Queens Park Rangers boss now able to focus his attentions upon the Bluebirds’ push for an automatic promotion spot.

The game was arguably one of the biggest fixtures Cardiff have played since their move to The Cardiff City Stadium from Ninian Park, with a bumper crowd of 32,339 turning out to watch the capital side take on a side challenging for a record breaking quadruple this season.

The game was perhaps overshadowed by controversy surrounding Cardiff defender Joe Bennett’s ugly challenge on Leroy Sane in the first half, after the former Aston Villa man caught the surging Sane high to bring the German down on the edge of the box, in a challenge likely to be reviewed by the FA in the coming days.

Fans were impressed by the number of supporters that turned out to lend their support for the Bluebirds, but some questioned why the club wasn’t attracting this bumper crowd on a weekly basis…
