Former Derby County striker Lewis Walker could be handed a Championship lifeline at Queens Park Rangers following his release by the Derby is the summer.

A free agent following his departure from the Rams by mutual consent, Walker, 20, has been handed a trial at Loftus Road and the son of Nottingham Forest legend Des Walker will be hoping to impress the R's hierarchy and secure a contract.

But would signing Walker be good business for QPR?

We discuss.....

Jay Taylor

There is no harm in the trial.

If he is anything like his dad he will be a great player.

Giving a trial to him and allowing him, to play in the U23 matches is a good way to sound out his potential and if it is worth making a move for the striker.

It could be the unearthing of another forward with bags of promise like Ebere Eze.

George Dagless

It's an intriguing one.

Sometimes these deals work out and Derby will wonder what they were playing at.

It is low risk and if the R's can see something in him then why not give him a second chance to prove himself at this level.

Gary Hutchinson

It’s neither here nor there for me.

QPR line up move for young player who will most likely join, play fifteen minutes at the end of a couple of games and then go out on loan.

Or if they get desperate, he might end up getting a few games after the transfer window when they move on Sylla and Smith and sign nobody because of the embargo.

This news is one of those ‘shrug’ moments for me.

Louie Chandler

Is he needed?

I would not say QPR have problems in attack at the moment and would be far better suited to sorting out their defence.

Walker may well come good in the future so it could be a wise move, but it is not where McClaren's focus should be.
