Neil Warnock got off to the perfect start as Cardiff City manager with a well-fought 2-1 victory over Severnside neighbours Bristol City last night.

The Bluebirds were made to work hard for the win after the Robins dominated the ball for the majority of the game.

Goals from Peter Whittingham and Sol Bamba put Cardiff City 2-0 up on the hour mark, but Lee Tomlin instantly replied with a thunderous strike to make the Welsh side sweat in the final 20 minutes.

The Bluebirds held on to secure a much-needed win, and there was a sense of unity around the club when the final whistle went.

The atmosphere was back, and there seems a sense of excitement among the supporters, as 22,500 fans came to support their clubs, including 2,000 Bristol City fans making their way across the Severn Bridge for the local derby.

Here, FootballLeagueWorld writer Ashley Williams takes a look at how Twitter reacted to the game last night, with many praising Warnock’s immediate impact…

While a few members of the Bristol City team conveyed their disappointment with the result, but thanked the fans for their excellent support in South Wales…
