After coming so close to a place in the top-six last season, Bristol City will be determined to make a serious push for promotion this time around.

It has been a busy summer for the Robins as well with six new faces making the move to Ashton Gate, including Sammie Szmodics, Tomas Kalas, Jay Dasilva, Tommy Rowe and Daniel Bentley.

But it looks like they could be about to incur a sizeable loss, with Adam Webster reportedly closing in on a move to Brighton, according to the BBC.

So, what should we make of this situation?

How should Bristol City fans be feeling?

"Incredibly frustrated.

"Up until this point the club had had a terrific transfer window and looked like they had managed to cling on to all of their star operators.

"In Kalas and Webster they were all set to have one of the strongest centre-back pairings in the league but now that looks like it will be dismantled."

Where does this leave the club?

"It leaves them in an irritating, but not irreparable, position.

"Webster was a really big player going into this season and losing him at such a late stage in the window will of course be a blow.

"But with such a big fee coming in they will still have the chance to replace him more than adequately and even strengthen in other areas of the pitch as well."

Do they have the necessary depth to cope with the loss?

"I think with the likes of Nathan Baker and Bailey Wright waiting in the wings they could definitely cope.

"But should they be aiming to just cope? I don't think so. The fee earned from the sale of Webster needs to be reinvested on a top, Championship centre-back.

"Neither Baker or Wright have managed to convince last season so they do all they can to ensure they are not starters."

Who could they look to bring in as a replacement?

"There are plenty of very viable options out there for the Robins.

"I would be looking at Sonny Bradley or Matty Pearson at Luton, Liam Moore at Reading, Mike van der Hoorn at Swansea or even Michael Hector who is yet to make his move this summer.

"It may seem like a disaster now but there are plenty of great replacements out there."

Is this a good move for the defender?

"I personally think he could have done with another season in the second-tier.

"Brighton could be in for a tough season in the top-flight and, whilst I am sure he will get plenty of game time, he may find himself rather exposed.

"I have no doubts that he will be a Premier League quality centre-back soon, but I am not convinced he is yet."

What will Lee Johnson be thinking?

"I think he will be keeping his cool.

"Webster has been attracting attention all summer and I would expect somebody as pragmatic as Johnson to have planned for this eventuality.

"Recruitment at Ashton Gate in recent seasons has been very impressive and I would back them to get this one right as well."
