Football League World's Barnsley fan pundit Dan Sykes has revealed what the club must address in the January transfer window following a slow start to the season.

Barnsley currently sit in 22nd with nine matches played with only Stoke City and Huddersfield Town below them, with many asking questions over the quality of Daniel Stendel's squad.

But Sykes believes there are two key elements missing from their game.

"We are definitely missing someone to create chances from the centre of midfield," the regular punter said.

"We don't have anyone pushing up and around the box playing the little through-balls in or crafting a bit of magic out of nothing.

"We are also desperately missing some experience. A steady head to lead by example and keep everyone going.

"When I see that Danny Simpson has gone on a free to Huddersfield after lifting the Premier League a couple of years ago, it's obvious there are players out there who could improve us."

"I don't think anyone can say that the majority of the players don't put in enough effort, but whether or not we have the quality and the guile required to stop in this league remains to be seen."

The summer transfer window saw them lose a host of established first-team players including Kieffer Moore, Liam Lindsay, Ethan Pinnock and Adam Davies.

A lack of experience is one of the biggest issues in the team. Goalkeeper Samuel Radlinger is the club's eldest statesman at just 26 with Alex Mowatt the only player possessing considerable second-tier experience prior to this season.

On Wednesday, Stendel welcomes fellow strugglers Derby County to Oakwell as they look to get their survival bid up and running.
