Nottingham Forest face going head to head with Championship rivals Birmingham City, Derby County and Charlton Athletic in their pursuit of Crewe Alexandra right-back Perry Ng, according to a report by TEAMtalk, with the 23-year-old available on a free-transfer in the summer.
Ng is a product of the famous Crewe youth set-up and has enjoyed another fine season at Gresty Road, where he has captained the Railwaymen to third in League Two, just two points shy of leaders Swindon Town.
So would Ng be a good addition at the City Ground and is he actually good enough to play in the Championship[
“Although Ng unquestionably possesses a wide array of skills, Forest ought to consider steering clear of signing him in the summer.
“Having never played in the second-tier before, the defender may struggle to adapt to his new surroundings if the Reds miss out on promotion to the Premier League this season.
“Furthermore, when you consider that Forest have the likes of Matty Cash and Carl Jenkinson at their disposal, there is no guarantee that Ng will be able to play regular first-team football at the City Ground.
“Taking this into consideration, the defender should be eyeing up a move to a side who will be able to aide his development by offering him the chance to prove himself at a higher level.”

“I think that there are better options for Forest if they wish to provide even more cover at right-back next season.
“If all goes to plan, Forest could well be playing in the Premier League next season, so they need to ensure that their recruitment is spot on in order to maintain their stay in the top-flight, or push for promotion once again.
“Ng is a solid defender who has impressed in League Two over the past few years, but Crewe have only just started to make a real go of it in League Two which would be a potential worry for Forest fans.
“I personally don’t think he’s good enough for a club like Forest just yet – the Reds need a player who can push Matty Cash all the way, as no-one is getting in the team ahead of him anytime soon.”
“It’s pretty clear that this is a player who has been lined up as a potential replacement for Matty Cash, with the youngster being almost certain to leave the club in the not too distant future.
“Ng would represent something of a like for like replacement for Cash as their playing styles are very similar, with the Crewe right back having showcased great offensive ability this campaign.
“His style would certainly suit the Championship and he has already shown this term that he has a great engine on him, thus allowing the player to get up and down the line well to support in attacking and defensive situations.
“In short, this would be a smart addition by Forest as they prepare for Cash’s almost inevitable departure.”
