Judgement should be reserved on Jos Luhukay until he has a full team, free from injury, to use.

The Sheffield Wednesday is having to come up with some innovative solutions in order to work around the injury problems with the recent game against Millwall seeing them start with no out-and-out striker.

Two strikers were on the bench: Lucas Joao and Atdhe Nuhiu. However, Luhukay wanted to rest them due to the busy run of fixtures coming up.

Youth team players Jordan Thorniley, Jack Stobbs, Conor O'Grady, Sean Clare and Cameron Dawson have all been given gametime under him.

The injury list has certainly forced this in some regards, but this is a promising sign nonetheless.

One of the criticisms of his predecessor Carlos Carvalhal was that he didn't give youngsters a chance in the first team because he preferred experience.

The Owls have an ageing squad that sorely lacks pace, and that may be part of the reason why there are so many injuries to key players.

Kieren Westwood, Joost van Aken, Kieran Lee, Sam Hutchinson, Almen Abdi, Barry Bannan, Steven Fletcher, Fernando Forestieri and Gary Hooper are all unavailable currently and only one of them are under the age of 28 to illustrate the point.

Aside from Abdi and Van Aken, each of them is a key member of the team. That isn't including the six other players who have had long spells out this season.

This highlights the scale of the problem that has afflicted the club this season and seriously derailed their attempts to reach the play-offs for a third consecutive season.

Although they are still in the FA Cup with a 5th round replay against former manager Carvalhal's Swansea looming on the horizon.

3 wins in 10 games in all competitions isn't the best run of form.

However, Luhukay has managed to achieve draws against Cardiff, Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and Swansea as well as a win against Derby.

He has made the team hard to beat which is a great starting point, and his sole January signing Joey Pelupessy has been solid so far and he even managed to score his first goal for the club in the recent game against Millwall.

These are all promising signs for the future, so Luhukay certainly deserves a full season to see what he can get from this team.

His success at getting teams promoted into the Bundesliga affirms that.
