Theo Corbeanu enjoyed a very promising first season in senior football in 2021/22, with two successful stints in League One with Sheffield Wednesday and Milton Keynes Dons.

The Canadian impressed with the Owls in the first half of the season, even performing well in an unfamiliar wing back role under Darren Moore, before being re-deployed at Stadium MK for the second half of the campaign.

Liam Manning's Dons finished just one point behind Rotherham United, who sealed second place on the final day in League One, and came up against an inspired Wycombe Wanderers side to lose 2-1 on aggregate in the play-off semi finals.

Corbeanu took to Instagram to reflect on a crucial season in his development.

He wrote: "First professional season down in the books.

"A very disappointing end going out in the play-off semifinals, but overall a great learning curve for me.

"For every negative, there was a positive and I’ll be looking forward to see what the next season has to offer.

"Also , I’d like to thank all the fans who supported me this season at both Sheffield Wednesday and MK Dons."

The 19-year-old has one more year on his contract at Molineux, but his performances in the third tier this season could be enough to convince the club to offer him fresh terms this summer.

The Verdict

Corbeanu has scored twice in six caps for the Canadian national team already, and could be involved in the World Cup this winter, with his home nation set to host the tournament in 2026.

The 19-year-old scored three and assisted three in a variety of attacking roles under Moore and Manning, and could head out on loan as a more well-rounded asset heading into 2022/23.

There has been enough quality in patches to encourage Championship clubs to pursue Corbeanu in the summer, and at this stage of his career it feels like a logical step up next season.

It will be interesting to see if the versatile forward earns any senior opportunities under Bruno Lage in pre-season.
