Barnsley manager Paul Heckingbottom is looking for more consistency from his side next season having seen his Tykes outfit fall away in the second half of the campaign, and has moved to add depth and quality in the forward positions with the signing of young Chelsea striker Ike Ugbo.

The fresh faced 18-year-old has linked up with Heckingbottom’s men on a season long loan deal, and will join the squad ahead of their long opening day trip to Bristol City.

Ugbo smashed 23 goals in 35 matches at various youth levels for Chelsea last season, helping the Blues to yet another FA Youth Cup success along the way.

Heckingbottom is looking to add different options to his front line and has certainly done so with the acquisition of Ugbo, with the pacy young striker willing to play on the shoulder of the last man, causing nightmares for sluggish Championship defenders.

Tall and powerful, Ugbo will be a menace for the Tykes next season, and his willingness and desire will appease fans at Oakwell in the coming months.

Ugbo is a winner having experienced success with Chelsea’s youth sides and having lifted the U20 World Cup earlier in the summer, and this mentality will go a long way in a Barnsley squad with ambitious hopes of a top six finish.
