Ipswich Town are mainstays of the Sky Bet Championship and, despite a brief encounter with the Premier League in the early 2000s, they are very much part of the Championship's regular teams.

Under Mick McCarthy this season they have kept pace with the play-off chasing pack, and remain very much in contention to cement a place in the top six come the end of the season.

Things have not always been rosy though for the Tractor Boys over the last five seasons, as an influx of poor players have come and gone at Portman Road.

There is some quality in the squad at the moment, with Daryl Murphy one of the league’s leading strikers on his day, and Brett Pitman offering support as well.

GK - Richard Wright

There is no denying that Richard Wright holds a special place in the hearts of Town fans, but his third spell in 2011 was a bit of a pointless venture.

He made only one appearance for the club during this spell, and conceded three goals in a home defeat against Reading. Wright would be swiftly moved on after realising he wasn’t up to the task any more, and promptly failed again at Preston North End.

Remarkably, he continues to earn a contract with Man City, and has been there over three seasons now.

DEF – Reece Brown

The defender joined on loan from Manchester United for three months in the February of 2013, and was expected to be a success.

However, he made only one appearance for the Tractor Boys, and when his loan was up, he was then promptly released by Manchester United upon his return.

A very strange signing and one of little point, Brown now plays his football in League One with Bury.

DEF - Bilel Mohsni

moshni

Bilel Mohsni signed a three month deal with the club after apparently impressing enough during a trial, securing a move from Southend United.

It wasn’t to work out for the Frenchman though, and made only five appearances before being moved on to Scottish side Rangers.

Mohsni never ever looked good enough for the Championship, and he has since left Rangers in controversial circumstances following disciplinary problems.

DEF – Elliott Hewitt

The full back was signed from Macclesfield after impressing for them during a two year spell.

However at Ipswich, he struggled to ever find any rhythm in his game due to form and injury, and numerous loan spells followed for him.

He made less than 20 appearances for the club during a three year contract and was eventually moved on permanently to Notts County, where he continues his career.

DEF - Freddie Veseli

The Swiss defender, who held an international cap for Albania, was signed by Ipswich from Premier League Manchester United, with much expected of the man from Old Trafford.

Veseli was moved out on loan after only four months with the club in 2013, and never made another appearance for them from this point on.

It was clear to everyone connected with the club that they had signed a bit of a dud, and despite going on to impress in the lower leagues for Port Vale and Bury, he offered nothing to Ipswich.

MID – Nigel Reo-Coker

The former England Under-21 captain joined the Tractor Boys from Bolton Wanderers after impressing as one of the Trotters' most consistent performers, and described the move to Town as perfect for him.

But Reo-Coker would struggle to make an impact at the club, making only 10 appearances before leaving only three months after signing in a move to MLS club Vancouver Whitecaps.

A disappointment for fans, Reo-Coker is an easy choice for this team.

MID – Ryan Stevenson

The midfielder would sign for the club in a £50,000 deal, arriving from Scottish club Hearts.

Stevenson though struggled to adapt to life down in England, and despite hitting a stunning goal to win the club's goal of the season award, he was promptly moved on only eight months later.

The midfielder now plays for Ayr United, which in a way, represents just how poor he was really.

MID – Cormac Burke

cormac burke

Burke made his debut for Ipswich in 2012 in a League Cup tie with Bristol Rovers, but would fail to make another appearance for the club.

Burke was only a young lad during his time in and around the first team, but he was never going to be good enough.

He has moved back to his native Ireland since, and had spells with Derry, Institute, and Dungannon Swifts, essentially demonstrating the level he can play at.

FW – Tyrone Barnett

barnett

Barnett joined the club for a short spell in 2012, after being transfer listed by his parent club.

Barnett though would only make three appearances for the club, and suffered a serious injury to cut short his spell.

It might be seen as harsh to include Barnett seen as he didn’t really get the chance to show his talent, but on pure appearances alone and what he contributed, he finds himself in this eleven.

FW – Aaron McLean

mclean111

The former Peterborough United man joined from Hull City, but failed to hit any sort of form for the Tractor Boys and ultimately failed during his short spell with the club.

Only one goal followed in his spell from January 2013 until the end of the season, and he was not signed on a permanent deal in the summer.

McLean was also known in Ipswich for making derogatory remarks about the town, upsetting local council leaders and fans alike with his comments.

He is definitely a player who will not be fondly remembered by the club.

FW - Tamas Priskin

priskin

Priskin just qualifies for this team as he was on the Ipswich books until 2012, and he deserves to be in it.

Only five goals in over 50 games as a striker is poor in anyone’s book, and Priskin can look at that reason for making this eleven.

His spell at Portman Road was injury ravaged and full of loan spells, and fans did not bat an eyelid when he was moved on to the Russian league at the end of his spell.
