Northampton Town snatched a last-gasp winner against Newport County in midweek and they had a West Ham loanee to thank for that.

Youngster Joe Powell netted a stunning winner just three minutes from time to give his side an all-important three points.

The 20-year-old has now scored twice in six appearances for the League Two outfit as they make a late charge for the play-off places.

He has a bright future ahead of him and has gained high praise from a former West Ham midfielder, with Jack Collison taking to twitter to send a positive message to the player.

Powell will be hoping that his latest goal will have done enough to warrant a regular starting spot in the Northampton team for their next game against Grimsby Town.

His goal meant that the Cobblers made it four wins in a row, as well as being unbeaten in their last seven league games.

They're picking up form at the perfect time and Powell has certainly made a difference in turning their season around since he arrived from the Hammers on loan in the January transfer window.

He has a promising future ahead of him and West Ham are certainly going to be pleased the impact he has made out on loan so far in this short-spell.

Powell is likely to be in a confident mood heading forward for the remainder of this year's campaign and will fancy his chances at firing Northampton into the play-off places before the end of the campaign.

If he can repeat some of the success that Jack Collison had previously had at West Ham, then he's going to make himself a fans favourite at the club in the years to come, which will surely be the aim.

Powell is a player with an exciting future ahead of him, and is one to keep an eye on for West Ham supporters.
