West Bromwich Albion opted to engage in a reasonable amount of transfer activity over the course of the summer window.

As well as securing the services of the likes of Jed Wallace, Brandon Thomas-Asante and Okay Yokuslu, the Baggies also sanctioned a number of departures.

One of the individuals who was allowed to leave the club on a temporary basis was Alex Mowatt who joined Middlesbrough in August.

Since making this particular switch, Mowatt's market value has dropped by 50% to €5m (as per Transfermarkt) from November 2021.

Here, we have decided to take a look at the key reasons behind the midfielder's drop in valuation...

When Mowatt sealed a move to Middlesbrough, he would have been hoping to make a positive impression during the opening months of the 2022/23 campaign.

However, the midfielder has been ineffective during the 15 league games that he has participated in this season as he is currently averaging an underwhelming WhoScored match rating of 6.25 at this level.

Mowatt's failure to score a goal or provide an assist this season has unquestionably played a role in his drop in valuation.

Whereas the midfielder demonstrated an abundance of creativity during his time at Barnsley, he was yet to reach the same heights at West Brom and Middlesbrough.

Given that Mowatt's contract at The Hawthorns is set to expire in 2024, the fact that we are getting closer to this date may also explain the reason why his value has fallen.

Whereas Transfermarkt value Mowatt at €5m, it would somewhat of a shock if West Brom were able to sell him for this figure when he returns to the club next year as he is clearly struggling for form.

Having made 267 appearances in the Championship during his career to date, Mowatt will be confident in his ability to get back to his best as he knows exactly what it takes to compete at this level.

Currently competing with Jonny Howson and Hayden Hackney for a place in Middlesbrough's starting eleven, the former Leeds United man may be forced to settle for a place on the substitutes bench when his side take on Luton Town on December 10th.

In order to boost his market value on Transfermarkt, Mowatt will unquestionably have to step up to the mark for Boro between now and the end of the campaign.
