Todd Cantwell has revealed that the events leading up to his Norwich City exit in January will be revealed in due course in his first message to Canaries fans since his departure.

The 24-year-old midfielder, who graduated through Norwich's academy having started with their under-10's, was a bit-part player for the club in the first half of the 2022-23 season, and with his contract coming to an end this summer, he was let go of by his boyhood club with Rangers signing him for an undisclosed fee.

Cantwell's Norwich career deteriorated since last season, where he was shipped out on loan to Championship side Bournemouth for the second half of the campaign after failing to make an impact in the first few months.

Despite featuring 18 times in the Championship during the current campaign, Cantwell was in and out of the starting 11 under Dean Smith and was given permission to leave the club last month, with his exit already set to happen in a few months time if he didn't.

Cantwell is thriving under Michael Beale at the Gers, playing three times and notching an assist already, but he has never addressed his Carrow Road exit - until now.

An Instagram story has been posted by Cantwell, stating that the truth will soon come out about things that happened behind the scenes that led to his eventual departure from Norwich, but stopped short of thanking the club's supporters.

The Verdict

It will be interesting to know the reasons behind Cantwell's departure like he is suggesting.

He was nowhere near his best in performances this season for the Norfolk outfit, and truth be told has not looked the same player since Norwich returned to the Premier League in 2021.

At his peak in the 2019-20 season in the top flight, Cantwell was courted by some top clubs for big money, but somewhere down the line it seemed to go wrong for the mercurial attacking midfielder.

Cantwell can now rebuild his career north of the border at Ibrox, but Norwich fans will still be wondering what really went on that led to his exit - but they will soon find out if he is to be believed.
