Sunderland suffered a crushing relegation back to the Championship during a poor 2016/17 campaign in the Premier League, which has seen David Moyes leave his position at the Stadium of Light.

The former Manchester United manager struggled to turn things around when the going got tough on Wearside, and with little money to spend this summer and fan frustration at an all-time high, he quit.

It’s left the managerial job vacant with the summer just around the corner and it’s clear the Black Cats need someone to take the club forward with the season growing ever-closer.

But there’s one man already on the books in the North East that we at the FLW think could be the most unlikely of stars moving forward.

The man in question? Former Everton hotshot Victor Anichebe, who hasn’t had a massive amount of game-time in the top flight this season.

He might not be everyone’s cup of tea and he certainly might not have been the best option in the Premier league, but at this level, he’s the sort of player most teams would like to have in their side.

Burly, strong and with a real eye for goal, he’s going to cause plenty of defences difficulty if he remains at the club over the summer.

Of course, whoever comes in might have ideas of their own and move him on quicker than his feet can touch the floor but he’s a player that should certainly consider a stay, despite the relegation.
