West Brom's faint hopes of winning automatic promotion took another significant hit when they lost 2-0 to Millwall on the weekend.

After a tepid opening half-an-hour, Ryan Tunnicliffe fired the home side in front, driving a low shot under the despairing Sam Johnstone, who should have done better.

And, moments after Jay Rodriguez had wasted a penalty that would have levelled the scores, it was 2-0 just when Ben Thompson’s cut back ricocheted into the back of the net off West Brom defender Ahmed Hegazy just after the hour mark.

Things got worse for the Egyptian too when he saw red with just ten minutes of the match remaining after picking up a second yellow.

Tonight they have the chance to bounce back when they travel to Ashton Gate to face fellow promotion hopefuls Bristol City.

But after such a poor display at the Den, Jimmy Shan will surely have a few changes to make.

Here, then, are TWO tweaks he could make to his XI...

Start the youngsters

Two of the biggest bright sparks from the Baggies season have been academy products Rekeem Harper and Kyle Edwards.

The pair bring an energy and desire to the squad that seems to be badly lacking without them, especially Harper.

With midfield options consisting predominantly of pedestrian and fairly safe footballers, he adds some badly needed excitement.

Change the shape

It was continuously playing 4-3-3 that eventually cost Moore his job and Shan appears to be making the same mistake at the moment.

Introducing a midfield diamond, with Harper or Johansen at the tip, could therefore bring the best out of their creative players as well as both Gayle and Rodriguez.

We have seen that when the front men are off their game, the Baggies struggle, so playing a system that suits them best is surely the way to go.
