Ipswich Town have made an encouraging start to life in League One as they seek an immediate return to the Championship, following a disastrous 2018/19 campaign.

The Tractor Boys are currently third in the table, outside of the automatic promotion places on goal difference, but have a game in hand on the side directly above them in the table.

Despite an alarming run of form, including a run of five league games without a victory, Ipswich are still a strong position to challenge for automatic promotion.

There's still a long way to go, but the Tractor Boys' start to their league campaign has given fans at Portman Road plenty of reasons to feel optimistic about returning to the second tier.

It hasn't all been plain sailing for Paul Lambert's side this year though. With this in mind, here are TWO moments from 2019 that Ipswich fans will want to forget...

Defeat to Norwich City

Ipswich suffered a 3-0 defeat to their arch-rivals Norwich City in a fiery East Anglian derby at Carrow Road back in February.

It was a frustrating and disappointing afternoon for the Tractor Boys, as the Canaries ran out 3-0 winners, despite only having 47% possession and only managing three shots on target.

It was a fiery game, which saw seven yellow cards, and a miserable return to Carrow Road for Ipswich boss Lambert, who was sent off following a mass brawl on the touchline.

Onel Hernandez gave Norwich the lead after just 82 seconds and Teemu Pukki scored twice in the second half to win the match for the hosts and ensure that they remain unbeaten against Ipswich since April 2009.

The result also meant that Norwich moved two points clear at the top of the Championship table and took another step towards securing promotion to the Premier League, while Ipswich remained bottom of the second tier.

Relegation from the Championship

After a disastrous season, Ipswich were finally relegated from the Championship in April 2019, as they were held to a 1-1 draw with Birmingham City at Portman Road.

The Tractor Boys became the first side in the EFL to be relegated in the 2018/19 season and dropped down to the third their of English football for the first time since 1957.

Ipswich went into the game knowing that only a win against the Blues would save them from relegation with four games to spare, but Town got off to the worst the possible start, with Lukas Jutkiewicz putting the visitors in front after just seven minutes.

Gwion Edwards equalised for Ipswich just after half-time, but they couldn't get a winner and their 17-year stay in the Championship was brought to an end in front of their own supporters.
