Wolverhampton Wanderers are well clear at the summit of the second tier table, and it appears to be only a matter of time before the side from the West Midlands’ promotion to the Premier League is confirmed.

Portuguese boss Nuno Santo was brought in in the summer to install a new era in the Black Country with the financial backing of the club’s Chinese owners, and the former Porto manager is certainly delivering on his promise of returning the club to the top flight.

A solid summer transfer window was backed up with some shrewd mid season additions, with the likes of Benik Afobe likely to find form again following his return to the club.

However despite their successes, Santo certainly made a mistake or two in the window…

Not signing loan stars to permanent deals

The likes of Willy Boly and Leo Bonatini have been sensational for the club this season since arriving on loan deals from clubs scattered across the world, and their form has certainly helped lift Wolves into their lofty position.

However other sides are beginning to grow aware of their talents, and Wolves could face a battle to land their men in the summer should others come calling for their services.

Perhaps the club were limited by Financial Fair Play restrictions this month that stopped them from securing permanent deals, but they could live to regret their decision in the summer.

Afobe vs. Bonatini

Santo secured former striker Benik Afobe on deadline day, but could the loan signing of the Bournemouth man backfire?

Leo Bonatini has been the undisputed striker at Molineux for the entire campaign, but now his position in the side is seriously under threat.

The Brazilian’s scoring rate has certainly decreased recently and Wolves were in need of another option, but if the Al-Hilal loanee finds himself out of the side at the expense of Afobe, then the player may lose interest in securing a permanent Molineux switch in the summer.
