After what can only be deemed as an awful start to the season, Birmingham City have turned their form around and are now within touching distance of a playoff place.

Garry Monk has overseen some a complete change in fortune at St. Andrew's since the opening few weeks.

That could be down to the settled side he has been able to pick from and playing the same system frequently to aid the player’s knowledge of their roles and responsibilities.

Birmingham have lost two of their last ten matches in the league and have the second best form over that length of time, too.

But for all the adulation the Blues are getting at present, there is always room for improvement and players who will need an added boost with extra competition for places.

And with the January transfer window open in less than a month, Monk will be formulating a list of transfer targets he believes could well get his side in the playoffs come the end of the season.

With that said, here is the transfer business Birmingham must finalise in January to keep up their playoff push.

Currently, on loan at Sheffield United, he isn’t playing and could well be recalled by his parent club Liverpool in the new year.

If that is to happen, then Garry Monk should move to add the young striker to his side.

Birmingham only really have Che Adams and Lukas Jutkiewicz in their attack, and beneath that, it is pretty threadbare for the Monk’s side.

A loan move for Ben Woodburn would give him more minutes and more desire to prove himself having had a disappointing spell at Bramall Lane.

The Queens Park Rangers defender is out of contact in the new year and is no stranger to Garry Monk.

Having been at Swansea together, the Blues boss has been Rangel’s teammate and manager.

A move for the experienced right-back could add more competition and Championship nous to a Birmingham side that firmly have their eyes locked on a playoff hunt.

There could be worse signings made, and Rangel knows what it is like to get into the top-six and win promotion from it, having done so with Swansea - and Monk before.

Garry Monk and Nathan Dyer were also at Swansea together with the latter still there having been on loan to Leicester the year they won the Premier League.

Dyer is on the verge of a Liberty Stadium Exit in the new year and Monk could well move to add his experience to the side.

The pair know how one another operate and at 31-years-old he still has something to offer.

A change of scenery and a re-connection with an old teammate could be the catalyst to reviving a career that is faltering.
