Queens Park Rangers have managed to have a solid enough season in the Championship this term with Mark Warburton’s side currently in the top half of the table.

The Rs would have been aiming to build on last term and show progression in their consistency and they have at times been able to show that. Warburton's side will now been aiming to have a strong ending to the campaign and try and cement their place in the top half, with play-offs likely now too far adrift for them to have a chance of making that.

It will then be a very important summer for the club and they will need to bring in the right sort of players into the squad to help add that extra spark to their squad. If they can do that then they will feel that they have a shot at making it into the top-six next term even though they will likely not be amongst the favourites at the start of the campaign.

While we wait to see how QPR get on in their remaining games, we have put together a list of the club’s top 10 oldest ever players. Click ‘next’ to scroll through the list…

Currently, QPR’s tenth oldest ever player is Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, who makes this list having managed to make an appearance for the Rs at the age of 36 years and four months during a 2-1 defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur in March 2015.

Ferdinand ended his hugely successful spell at Old Trafford, where he won pretty much all there is to win in the game, in the summer of 2014 and he went on to sign for newly promoted QPR that same summer signing a one-year deal in what was an ambitious move by the Rs. However, things did not work out the way that everyone would have been hoping for.

The defender was unable to be at his best form with his powers on the way out and him being close towards the ending of his career. Ferdinand was able to make just 12 appearances for the club, and he had announced earlier on in the season that he would be retiring at the campaign’s end. He duly did retire from football in the summer of 2015.

Since retiring after his spell with the Rs, Ferdinand has gone on to a lot of work as a TV pundit and is mainly found on BT Sport covering the Champions League.

Coming in at number nine on this list is former QPR midfielder Gareth Ainsworth, who makes this list having managed to make an appearance for the Rs at the age of 36 years, five months seven days in a 4-0 win at home to Preston in October 2009.

Ainsworth signed for the Rs in the summer of 2003 and he would make an immediate impression for the club scoring a brace on his debut in a 5-0 win against Blackpool. He finished the 2003/04 campaign with seven goals in 35 appearances as he helped the club earn promotion to the Championship. He made 22 appearances the following campaign scoring twice.

His best goal-scoring season with the Rs came during the 2005/06 campaign with him firing in nine league goals in 43 appearances. The following year was his last one as just a player and he made 22 appearances in the league, before he became an assistant to Luigi De Canio as well as making 25 appearances. He remained a part of the coaching set-up and also playing for them until leaving.

The midfielder is now working a manager with Wycombe Wanderers and has guided the club to promotion from both League Two and League One.

Coming in at eighth place on this list is former QPR defender Frank McLintock, who makes this list having managed to make an appearance for the club at the age of 37 years, four months and nine days during a 1-1 draw with Liverpool in May 1977.

McLintock signed for QPR in the summer of 1973 with the Rs paying Arsenal a fee of around £25,000 to bring him in. In his first season with the club he managed to make 26 league appearances and 35 in total in all competitions, he then made 34 appearances across the 1974/75 season. The defender was also instrumental in helping QPR finish as first division runners up in 1975/76.

The defender would retire from football at the end of the 1976/77 campaign after making 53 appearances in all competitions for the Rs. He then went on to manage the likes of Leicester City and Brentford and also worked as assistant manager to John Docherty at Millwall.

In seventh place on this list is former QPR stalwart Clint Hill, with the defender making this list having managed to make an appearance for the club at the age of 37 years, six months and 18 days during a 1-0 win at home to Bristol City in May 2016.

Hill was signed by the Rs in the summer of 2010, with Neil Warnock choosing to reunite with the defender who he managed at Crystal Palace. It proved to be a highly successful addition with him coming in and providing a real strong defensive presence to the side as the Rs managed to win the Championship title during the 2010/11 campaign and earn promotion to the Premier League.

During the 2011/12 season, Hill made 22 league appearances and played a part in the side managing to survive in the top-flight. However, the following campaign he made 34 appearances in all competitions but could not keep the club in the Premier League. The 2013/14 season saw the defender once again show his class helping them earn promotion via the play-offs.

However, the Rs were instantly relegated back down to the Championship and the following season he made 13 league appearances before leaving for Rangers in the summer. He spent one year with them before moving to Carlisle United and retiring at the end of the 2017/18 campaign. He is now assistant manager at Bristol Rovers.

Coming in at sixth place on this list is another former QPR defender in the shape of Angel Rangel, who makes this list having managed to make an appearance for the club at the age of 37 years, seven months and 16 days.

Rangel signed for the Rs in the summer of 2018 after leaving Swansea City after spending a decade with the Welsh club. The defender managed to be a decent performer in his first season with the club in 2018/19 and he managed to score two goals in his 20 appearances in all competitions as the Rs finished the campaign in 19th place in the Championship.

Last term would prove to be the defender’s final season with the club, and he managed to be a key performer for them for most of the campaign making 41 appearances and scoring another two goals. However, he suffered an injury against Luton Town towards the end of the campaign and the club confirmed last summer that he would leave them but also stay on to help with his rehabilitation.

Coming in at fifth place in QPR’s top ten oldest ever players is former goalkeeper Radek Cerny, who makes this list having appeared for the Rs at the age of 37 years, ten months and 20 days during a 1-1 away at MK Dons in January 2012.

Cerny was signed by QPR in the summer of 2008 with him having grown frustrated with the lack of first-team chances afforded to him at Tottenham Hotspur. In his first season with the Rs, the keeper managed to establish himself as the club’s first-choice keeper, despite a couple of shaky moments at times. He went on to keep 15 clean sheets in the league in 2008/09.

The following campaign, Cerny made 32 appearances in all competitions as the Rs finished the campaign in 13th place in the Championship. However, the keeper lost his place to Paddy Kenny in the 2010/11 campaign and made just two appearances as the Rs won promotion to the top-flight. He was also a back-up option in 2011/12 and was then left out of the squad the following year.

He left the Rs in the summer of 2013 and went on to sign for Slavia Prague and he retired from the game at the end of the 2013/14 campaign.

Coming in at number four on this list is former forward Paul Furlong, who makes this list having made an appearance for the Rs at the age of 38 years, seven months and five days during a 1-1 draw with Stoke City in May 2007.

Furlong was signed by permanently by QPR in the summer of 2002, after he had two loan spells with the club from Birmingham City during his six years with the Blues. The forward managed to be an important player for them during the 2002/03 campaign, and he would then play a crucial role in helping them to promotion the following year.

In the Rs’ first season back in the Championship, Furlong was their top scorer with 18 league goals as they secured an 11th place finish. The following year he was less prolific in front of goal and in 2006/07 he was unable to be as much of an influence on the side managing just two league goals. The forward eventually left the club in the summer of 2007 signing for Luton Town.

Spells with the likes of Barnet, Kettering Town and St Albans City followed before he retired in 2012. He is currently working with QPR as an academy coach.

In at number three on this list is former QPR goalkeeper Ludek Miklosko, who makes this list having appeared for the Rs at the age of 39 years, three months and 22 days during a 2-0 defeat against Sheffield United in March 2001.

Miklosko was signed by the Rs on a permanent deal for a nominal fee from West Ham in the summer of 1998 after he had spent time on loan with them from the Hammers during the 1997/98 season where he had made 12 appearances. He managed to be an important part of the squad during the 1998/99 season as they finished in 20th place in the first division.

The following campaign the keeper was able to help the Rs finish in 10th position in the table and he eventually retired from the game late in 2001 due to injury troubles. Since his retirement, he has spent time as a goalkeeper coach with QPR, as well as his other former club West Ham.

Another goalkeeper on this list and in at number two is former Rs stopper Paul Jones, who makes this list having made an appearance for the club at the age of 39 years, six months and three days during a 3-2 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday in October 2006.

Jones signed for the Rs back in February 2006 after his contract at Wolves had been terminated and he went on to enjoy a successful period with the Rs during the second half of the campaign. That persuaded them to offer him a new one-year deal to keep him for the 2006/07 campaign.

The keeper was not as influential during the 2006/07 campaign and he was eventually allowed to leave the club at the end of the season after he had made 26 appearances in total for them. After leaving the Rs he went on to sign for Bognor Regis Town F.C. before retiring at the end of the 2007/08 season.

Currently QPR’s oldest ever player is former midfielder Ray Wilkins, who makes this list having appeared for the Rs at the age of 39 years, seven months and 21 days during a 3-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest in May 1996.

Wilkins was signed by the Rs in November 1994 arriving for a second spell with QPR after he had fired in seven goals in 154 appearances between 1989 and 1994. He returned after a brief spell with Crystal Palace to work as player-manager following the departure of Gerry Francis. During his time as a player-manager for the club he managed to make 21 appearances in all competitions.

He also guided them to an eighth-place finish in the Premier League 1994/95 campaign. However, the following campaign the club were relegated back down to the second tier after a 19th place finish. He eventually left the club in September 1996.

The former Rs midfielder also managed Fulham and the Jordan national team, as well as having spells as assistant manager at the likes of Chelsea, Watford, Millwall, England under21s, Fulham and Aston Villa.
