Aston Villa will be hoping they can put together a positive run of results at the earliest of opportunities, as they battle for survival in the Premier League. 

The club have had their fair share of players that have gone on to bigger and better things since coming through the academy system.

The 28-year-old moved to Aston Villa's youth setup in 2007 from Austrian side Rapid Wien.

He then broke into the first-team before moving to Derby County in the summer of 2015. Weimann now plays his football with play-off chasing Bristol City in the Championship.

Bannan is playing his football with Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship, and will be hoping he can help improve their poor run of form.

It's easy to forget that the Scotsman played for Aston Villa's academy before breaking into the first-team early into his career.

Barry was a hugely popular player in his time with Aston Villa after coming through the academy ranks at Villa Park.

The experienced midfielder made 428 appearances in total for the club, and is now playing for promotion-chasing West Brom in the Championship.

Cahill came through the Aston Villa academy before going on to break into the first-team.

The defender eventually moved to Bolton Wanderers in 2008, but is now playing his football with Premier League side Crystal Palace.

He has also won titles with Chelsea and has been capped for the England senior team.

Robinson is currently playing his football in the Championship with promotion-chasing West Brom, and has scored two goals in eight appearances for the Baggies.

He is on loan with them from Premier League side Sheffield United, and his impressive performance certainly won't have gone unnoticed.

It could be a case of the 'one that got away' for Aston Villa.

Albrighton impressed at academy level with Aston Villa, and went on to make 102 appearances for the first-team before released in 2004, where he went on to join Leicester City.

The winger is now playing his football with Leicester City, and played his part in their memorable title-winning season in the 2015/16 campaign.

Sturridge started out with Aston Villa before moving to Coventry City in 2000.

Sturridge went on to feature for both Chelsea and Liverpool's senior teams, but isn't currently with a club after off-the-field issues arose.

He'll be hoping to get his career back on track at the earliest of opportunities.

It won't come as a surprise to hear that Grealish is the best player to come through the academy ranks in recent years.

The attacking midfielder has nine goals and eight assists to his name this season for Aston Villa, and is likely to be pushing for a place in the England senior side if his recent performances are anything to go by.
