Some of the world's best midfield players are renowned for being technically gifted players, capable of showing class on the ball and unlocking even the tightest of defences.

While some people have different definitions of what they class as a technically gifted player, the main qualities many would agree on would be quality first touch, pin point long and short passing, and sometimes the added bonus of being a master of dead ball situations.

Players like Andres Iniesta, Andrea Pirlo, and more recently Kevin De Bruyne in a more attack minded setting, all seem to be on top of the game when it comes to technical abilities.

While these players grace the world stage, there are those down in the Championship who have excellent technical ability when it comes to being on the ball, with clubs often building teams around these players.

With this in mind, FLW's Lee Connor has provided his opinion and has taken a look in more detail at these players.

Here are the top FIVE technically gifted midfielder players in the Championship, according to FLW writer Lee Connor.....

5) Tom Huddlestone

Although not always a guaranteed starter these days for Hull City, few can deny that Huddlestone is and always has been a master technician with a football.

Previously at Spurs and Derby County, the England international is dominant presence because of his size, but also has a deft touch.

He has a brilliant strike on him from distance, can strike a deal ball as good as anyone, and can dictate games with his tempo and range of passing. A real quality performer on his day, Huddlestone may well be an excellent signing for someone come the summer.

4) Tom Cairney

The former Blackburn man has been one of the few bright sparks for Fulham this season, along with the front pairing of McCormack and Dembele.

But Cairney is an excellent footballer, capable of playing anywhere across the midfield and with the ability to score the spectacular.

Cairney has chipped in with his fair share of goals and assists this season, and will be looking to make sure he stays fit for all of next season and drive Fulham further up the table.

3) Luke Freeman

Luke Freemanm

The diminutive little attacking midfielder is always a threat, and fits the mould of the typical little number 10 you sometimes expect to see on  the continent.

Goal wise this season it hasn't been what Freeman would expect, but 40 appearances show his importance to his team playing behind the strikers.

Freeman is an excellent technician, capable of dropping off into pockets of space and picking the killer pass with his ability. He will be in high demand should disaster strike and the Robins are relegated.

2) George Thorne

Similar in style and mould to that of Tom Huddlestone, Thorne can control games from central midfield for Derby.

He is another big presence, but has an excellent touch and range of passing, and on his day can dominate games from the centre of the park, allowing others to flood forward while he controls the middle.

Thorne was never given a chance by West Brom in the Premier League, and he will be hoping to get back up there and impress with Derby if they can win the play offs

1) Alan Judge

Alan Judge

A shoe in really for number 1, Judge is the stand out midfielder in the league for me this season.

Double figures in both the assists and goals charts, he has pretty much carried Brentford alone.

Judge has all round excellent ability, and can dribble, shoot, take dead balls, and control games with his passing. He really is a joy to watch, and despite suffering a serious injury recently, will be in high demand on his return to fitness.

Judge is one of the best players in the league, and is top of this list on merit, something I am sure not many would agree with.
