It is always one of the age old arguments in football, whichever league you are in. Who has the best and loudest fans in the league?

It's always a tough one to answer. There is bias to take into account, there is fans who happen to have on occasion been to a game when fans have been quiet, and there are times when a one off game might generate a unique atmosphere never heard at certain grounds.

When you try and analyse the loudest fans, it can become even trickier. If you stand at the back of the stand, your bound to think your club is loud. If you sit opposite and cannot hear much, you're almost certain to think the ground is quiet.

In the Championship, there are some huge clubs with massive followings. However, this does not always amount to them having the loudest fans.

In this article, FLW writer Lee Connor gives his thoughts on the FIVE loudest home fans in the Championship...

5. Norwich City

Despite relegation from the Premier League last season and a dip in form this term, the Carrow Road faithful continue to make a bit of a racket during home games.

Alex Neil is finding himself under pressure, but the crowds are continuing to flood into the Canaries' stadium as they get behind their team in the push for promotion.

A nice old fashioned ground in design, Carrow Road still generates plenty of noise and deserves to be on this list.

4. Sheffield Wednesday

The Owls narrowly missed out on promotion last term, but this has not deterred their loyal following.

Known primarily for their excellent away support, Wednesday fans have been making plenty of noise at Hillsborough this season too - until very recently, where a slump in form has affected confidence around the club.

However, on it's day, Hillsborough is still one of the best grounds for noise.

3. Burton Albion

I mentioned in my opening paragraph that not all clubs with the largest crowds generate the best atmosphere, and Burton prove this theory.

The Brewers have a small, compact ground, but their fans generate plenty of noise for home matches.

This was on display when Burton hammered Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the season, with the home faithful drowning out those who had made the trip from Sheffield.

Nigel Clough will be counting on his home fans going forward to ensure they avoid relegation.

2. Newcastle United

The Toon Army have one of the most loyal followings in football, and pack out both home and away matches on a regular basis.

Their impressive start to the season has led to an increase in atmosphere and noise at St James' Park this season, much different to the subdued noise around the ground last term.

Newcastle look sure fire for promotion this term, and it could be some promotion party for the home fans when the day comes.

1. Leeds United

Just pipping Newcastle into first place for me, are Leeds United.

Historically arguably the biggest club in the league, new manager Garry Monk has given the club a new lease of life and they are beginning to look like genuine play-off contenders.

They have sold out Elland Road for their game with Newcastle United, and it will be some sight to witness a packed out house in West Yorkshire.
