Despite efforts to invest in their squad in recent seasons, as shown by the top five earners at the club according to Capology, West Ham United remain one of the Premier League's underachievers.

A poor start to the season saw former boss Manuel Pellegrini sacked and while results have seen a slight improvement under new manager David Moyes, they remain level on points with 18th-placed Bournemouth.

A 3-1 win over Southampton prior to the suspension of football proved important, but with the side taking just four points from their last six matches in total, they will need to play better when football returns.

The delay to the season and the uncertainty it creates will be a blow though, and with it still unknown how the season will be concluded, maintaining fitness and focus should prove a big challenge.

The Hammers do have some tough fixtures remaining against Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Chelsea, so when the season restarts they will have plenty of work to do.

With the return of football still a few weeks to away though, we look at their five top earners.

A career cruelly impacted by injury, Reid has not played for the Hammers in either of the past two seasons. Now on loan with Sporting Kansas City, there could be some hope of seeing him back in claret and blue at some point in the future.

He is past his best at the age of 35, but he remains a consistent performer regardless. Has seen Ryan Fredericks preferred this season, but has still made 10 appearances so far.

A talented player who has yet to fully fulfil his potential at West Ham, Fornals has shown flashes of his ability and remains a player who could push on when football resumes.

Better last season than this, but Anderson is another very talented player at Moyes' disposal. With only 19 starts this season, the Brazilian should see more action following the return of football.

Another player that has seen their career wrecked by injury, Wilshere has made just 11 appearances since arriving from Arsenal in the summer of 2018.
