As we approach another exciting, highly-anticipated League One campaign, supporters from across the country prepare to follow their team up and down the nation in their hope it is the year for the club they support.

That can often turn out to be the complete opposite, of course, but there will always be that distant dream that the team can become an untimely underdog and upset some of those expected to finish high - just as we saw from the likes of Fleetwood Town last term.

It can often be put down to the home support as to how successful a club can be in this arduous, grinding division that proves to be the case every year.

Once supporters give the backing of their team, anything is possible and creating a vibrant atmosphere within the ground can push your side to claim the three points.

But who has the best? These are the top FIVE best set of home fans in Sky Bet League One, in the opinion of FLW writer Ryan White......

Oxford United

One of the few fan bases in the country to have an ultra section, Oxford United certainly don't let league position become an obstacle in their vocal chords as they chant their U's until the final whistle, no matter the score line.

Having gained promotion to League One at the climax of the 2015/16 campaign after a superb performance throughout the season, Michael Appleton's squad finished 8th in their first term in the third-tier since 2001 - and it was the atmosphere created at the Kassam that caused such an impressive return to the league.

Recently returned to England from a pre-season tour in Portugal, Oxford United and new boss Pep Clotet were excellently backed during the camp, and it's that strong bond between the supporters and players at home which makes it enduring for visiting teams.

Bradford City

The Bantams proudly host one of the largest stadiums in League One, bar a few, after the promotions of Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield United, and will be hoping that inevitable Championship status will come at the end of the new season.

On course to achieve the 18,000 season ticket sales, Stuart McCall's players will have the remarkable backing of the club's supporters during outings at Valley Parade, and a rocking atmosphere is a exquisite result of the sublime turn-out.

Even last year Bradford City earned the second highest average home attendance of 18,167 which saw them narrowly miss out on going up, so there is no reason why that excellent trust from fans can make something special in Yorkshire in the next twelve months.

Portsmouth

It's been a suffering decade for Portsmouth who have been on a downward slide into the bottom division of the English Football League, but being crowned champions of the fourth-tier back in May is hope that this proud club is on it's way back up.

Such success was moulded around the marvellous numbers which come out to Fratton Park week-in, week-out and they'll be hoping to replicate that triumph this time around.

The 2016/17 campaign saw Pompey average a home gate just under 17,000,  more than their nearest competitors in this category and the supporters are right on the pitch which creates the ground to be a difficult place for visiting teams.

Bristol Rovers

Bristol Rovers are going into their second campaign in League One since earning promotion last summer with high hopes and optimism that well-respected boss Darrell Clarke can guide the club to a place in the Championship.

Admittedly, the Gasheads surprised the majority of the division after mounting an impressive tenth in their return to the third-tier, missing out on a place in the top-six after a slight downfall in form in the latter stages of the season.

The Memorial Stadium is a very compact and traditional ground which means it can form a flamboyant environment for the players in blue and white, it's mainly down to the dedicated fans as to why they came out victorious in thirteen home fixtures last year.

Fleetwood Town

A surprising feature in this article, the Cod Army have a superb following at home considering the restrictive numbers in the surrounding area.

This was terrifically proven by their performance in the league.

Fleetwood Town do now have an ultra's section which goes to show the dedication and willingness to back their players more than one hundred per cent at Highbury, following their impressive run which nearly saw them gain automatic promotion to the Championship for the first time.

In fact, they had the lowest average turn-out at home in the entirety of League One despite their superb displays on the pitch, with just 3,272 walking through the turnstiles on a regular basis it proves the supporters rank the club fairly high in their priorities.
