Euro 2016 came to it's culmination on Sunday evening, with Portugal beating hosts France 1-0 after extra time in Paris.

So it may not have been the most exciting of games, but there was no short of individual brilliance throughout the whole tournament, from Ronaldo's cheeky flick to Shaqiri's overhead kick, and Dier's free kick to Nainggolan's strike against Wales.

It was the first time 24 teams have competed at the tournament, and it led the way for more nations to make their debuts. Albania, Wales, Northern Ireland and Iceland are all teams that were not expected to qualify, with Wales going to the semi-finals and Iceland winning many fans on their way to the quarter-finals, beating England in the process.

With those new teams, especially Wales and Northern Ireland, there were a lot of Football League players that appeared at the tournament; the Championship had more representation than the likes of France's Ligue 1 and Portugal's Primeira Liga.

Here, in the opinion of FootballLeagueWorld writer Ryan Evans, is the FIVE best Football League players from the 2016 European Championships.....

5) Corry Evans (Blackburn/Northern Ireland)

Evans made three appearances for Michael O'Neill's men, missing the opener with Poland. However, in both the victory over Ukraine and the defeat to Wales, the Blackburn midfielder was excellent, and definitely earned all the plaudits he received.

He dictated the play, and moved the ball forward smartly, which should encourage new Rovers boss Owen Coyle ahead of the new season.

The 25-year old was also a part of history, as he and brother Jonny were the first brothers to ever play for Northern Ireland at a major tournament finals.

4) Robbie Brady (Norwich/Ireland)

With two goals to his name, Brady has actually scored 67% of his teams goals, the highest rate in the tournament. He was also man of the match in their only victory of the tournament over Italy, and has definitely done no harm to his reputation.

He was part of the Norwich side relegated from the Premier League last season, where he scored three goals and claimed two assists in his 36 appearances - only not starting two games. He was so good, whoscored.com rated him as their second best player, only January signing Timm Klose can beat Brady's 7.15.

He has attracted the attention of Everton, and would be a decent signing if Ronald Koeman can pull it off.

3) Chris Gunter (Reading/Wales)

The Reading full-back won a lot of praise for his performances in France, at the end of what has been an extremely long campaign for the player.

The semi-final against Belgium was his 65th game of the season, and rather than go missing, he's turned up and is putting in performances that involves him travelling 11km a game for most of his time at the tournament.

That stat is astounding, and how crucial he has been to Wales's success has left some Reading fans wondering why he couldn't deliver to that standard for them during the Championship campaign.

Operating as a right wing-back as part of a back five, Gunter's attacking threat was the thing that caught the eye of most people in this tournament, including in the win over Belgium where he had an assist to his name.

His performances have earnt him a link to Scottish giants Celtic, with Brendan Rodgers seemingly impressed with him at the Euros.

2) Moussa Sissoko (Newcastle/France)

Sissoko has been widely linked with a move away from St James's Park throughout the tournament, but that didn't stop him from putting in an impressive performance in Sunday's final.

In the first half, he picked the ball up on numerous occasions, turned and ran at the defenders, beating several in the process. He was unlucky not to either get his name on the score sheet or set up a goal for one of his team mates, but showed the rest of the world just what he can do.

The 26-year old also put in excellent performances in the draw with Switzerland and victory over Iceland, but Sunday's was his most impressive yet, and even managed to keep Premier League winner N'Golo Kante out of the team.

Where his club future lies is unknown, but if he continues to perform in the same vane as this latest international tournament, it will definitely be at a big club.

1) Aron Gunnarsson (Cardiff/Iceland)

It was a very close decision between Sissoko and Gunnarsson, but I went with Gunnarsson based on how crucial he was to Iceland's success.

Whilst he didn't score or claim an assist, he led his team with pride and his long throw ins caused many a team trouble, most notably England. His best performance came in the opener against Portugal, and look confident and assured in possession and out of it, which led many people to wonder just how he didn't get into the Cardiff team on a more regular basis last season.

He made 28 appearances for the Bluebirds, but only 16 of them were starts. He scored two and set up one, and could be a very useful tool for Paul Trollope as he looks to mastermind his side's way into the Championship play-offs.
