The last 10 years has probably been an era to forget for Sunderland supporters.

The Black Cats are the latest big club to be struck with financial difficulties and subsequently fall down the footballing ladder.

Back-to-back relegations from the Premier League to League One spelled out the failures of the club both on and off the pitch, making it a very depressing time to support the club.

However, the Stadium of Light is still packed full of passionate fans who expect to see their side back on the rise soon.

Despite all the doom and gloom, it hasn’t been all bad, and Sunderland fans have had a few things to shout about and celebrate.

Most memories come from times they have got one over on bitter rivals Newcastle, although there are other high moments of the last decade.

Here at FLW we look at the top THREE most unforgettable moments of the last 10 years...

It’s fair to say Sunderland have had the better of their bitter rivals Newcastle over the last decade. The Black Cats dominated with six derby victories in a row.

The best of the bunch was probably the 3-0 win at St James’ Park in 2014. Goals from Fabio Borini, Adam Johnson and Jack Colback were enough to guarantee Gus Poyet a massive three points.

Perhaps a not so happy memory, but when Sunderland fans look back on this era, it will be remembered for one thing – the double relegation.

The Black Cats had problems off the pitch that affected matters on the pitch and they fell from grace at a dramatic rate, similar to Portsmouth and Leeds a few years earlier.

The club had two relegations in successive seasons and it forms an unforgettable memory.

Heading into the latter stage of the 2015/16 campaign, either Sunderland or Newcastle would drop.

Sam Allardyce's guide helped Sunderland secure another year in the top-flight, as their bitter rivals dropped with Rafa Benitez.
