Sheffield Wednesday are one of the most historic football clubs in English history.

The Owls are a traditional side, and their ground, Hillsborough, is one of the most iconic stadiums in the country.

The Sheffield club have a rich history that has seen them win multiple league titles and compete at the highest level.

Unfortunately for them, the last decade or so haven’t been years that can be described as positive in the whole.

Spending the majority of the last twenty years in the second tier of English football, as well as a stint in the third tier, Wednesday are no longer as big as they once were.

That doesn’t mean they haven’t had positive moments - in fact, they have. The difference is that what may once have meant nothing to Wednesday, now means everything.

The search for Premier League football continues.

Here, we look at the THREE most unforgettable moments for Sheffield Wednesday over the last decade...

Speaking to a Wednesday fan recently, they said that the win over Brighton and Hove Albion in the play-offs was the best moment of the club's history in recent years.

Barry Bannan had a masterclass at Wednesday and Carlos Carvalhal’s men showed defensive solidarity at the AMEX despite Brighton’s barrage of attempts on their goal.

Sadly, the Owls lost the final to Hull City thanks to Mo Diame’s strike.

The Steel City Derby is one of the most iconic in the country. It is between two of the founders of English football as we know it today, and the Sheffield clubs compete at a very high level.

The clubs both spent a period in the third tier, and one of Wednesday’s wins in that time will have to go down as one of their finest moments of the last decade.

Chris O’Grady struck a goal in League One at the tail end of the 2011/12 season to punch a huge blow to Sheffield United’s promotion hopes.

It may not be a classic, but it meant a lot to Wednesday in terms of promotion back to the Championship, ahead of their bitter city rivals.

Carlos Carvalhal tweeted last week about it being the three year anniversary since his Wednesday side defeated Arsenal in the League Cup.

It may not be as symbolic or important as some of the play-off or Sheffield derby wins, but it was still a memorable evening at Hillsborough.

Goals from Ross Wallace, Lucas Joao and Sam Hutchinson gave Owls a historic victory over Arsene Wenger’s Gunners.
