Blackburn Rovers have had some wonderful players over the years.

After winning the Premier League title in the 1990s the club made their name with some top-level players over the years.

That led to a decade in the top flight during the 2000s after Rovers suffered relegation and promotion in the late 90s.

Fast-forward to the present day and there's a much more pragmatic approach to the way that Blackburn recruit.

The Scottish defender spent much of his career in Scotland before making a move to Brighton in 2010.

Despite signing for Blackburn early in his career, Greer made a move back to Ewood Park at the age of 36 as he looked to see out his remaining days in style.

Greer signing a one-year deal with Blackburn in 2016, however it didn't exactly go to plan as the Lancashire side suffered relegation to League One in a disappointing campaign.

The defender's last appearance for the club was on Feb 19, 2017 in a 2-1 defeat against Manchester United - a display that saw Greer appear the age of 36 years 02 months 05 days.

The French midfielder was an absolute joy to watch in his day.

His playing career saw him spend his prime years with Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan before heading to Germany in the early 2000s.

Surprisingly Djorkaeff headed to Bolton Wanderers of all places in 2002 and spent two years with the Trotters before completing a move to Blackburn Rovers.

Djorkaeff's time at Ewood Park was short-lived but his last appearance away at Chelsea on Oct 23, 2004 was enough to put him in the club's top 10 oldest players.

That showing came at the impressive age of 36 years 07 months 14 days.

A man who is still playing for the club and so could easily move himself up this list over the coming months.

Stewart Downing started his career with hometown club Middlesbrough where he stayed until 2009 when the club suffered relegation to the Championship.

What followed was a successful career where his prime years were spent with the likes of Aston Villa, Liverpool and West Ham United before returning to the Riverside Stadium in 2015.

After four years back with Middlesbrough Downing joined Blackburn Rovers in 2019 where he spent one year before leaving the club and rejoining.

His last appearance against Norwich City earlier this month puts him at number eight in our list at the age of 36 years 07 months 26 days - however it'd be a surprise if that proved to be his last appearance.

The Portuguese striker enjoyed a wonderful career for both club and country.

Gomes played for Boavista, Benfica and Fiorentina during his prime years but did make a brief stop at Ewood Park during his autumn days.

He arrived in the summer of 2012 and spent one year with the club before retiring the following year.

The striker's final appearance came in the 1-1 home draw with Crystal Palace Apr 27, 2013 - a game that he played in at the age of 36 years 09 months 22 days.

The defender enjoyed an established career in the English game.

Short played for the likes of Notts County, Derby County and Everton before completing a move to Blackburn Rovers at the age of 31.

He then spent six years at Ewood Park before leaving the club for Sheffield United in 2005.

Short's final appearance came on May 7, 2005 in a 3-1 home defeat against Fulham - a game where the defender was handed the captain's armband.

He was aged 36 years 10 months 12 days, putting him at number six in our list.

The American is one of the most recognisable figures in the Premier League era.

After spending time with Liverpool, Friedel completed a move to Blackburn Rovers in 2000 where he spent around eight years playing at Ewood Park.

Such was the level of his performances during that time he was actually inducted into the club's hall of fame.

Friedel left Blackburn in the summer of 2008 with his final appearance for the club coming on May 11, 2008 in a 4-1 defeat against Birmingham City.

He was aged 36 years 11 months 23 days, putting him at number five in our list.

A player who came through Manchester United's famous youth academy.

Brown spent the bulk of his career at Old Trafford before heading for Sunderland in 2011 and spending five years at the Stadium Of Light.

After leaving the Black Cats the defender joined Blackburn Rovers on a short-term deal in 2016.

While his appearances at Ewood Park were limited the centre-back did make his final appearance on Apr 8, 2017 in a 2-0 home defeat to Barnsley - a game that he played at the age of 37 years 05 months 26 days.

Moran was a regular for the Republic Of Ireland but will be largely remembered for the 10 years that he spent playing for Manchester United at Old Trafford in the 70s and 80s.

After leaving the Red Devils, the defender spent two years in Spain with Sporting Gijon before joining Blackburn Rovers in 1990.

Moran went on to spend around four years at Ewood Park, making his final appearance in a 0-0 draw against Ipswich Town on May 7, 1994.

The defender was 38 years and 8 days' old when he played that game.

The Welshman had the sort of playing career that many could only dream of.

Hughes played for the likes of Manchester United, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Chelsea during his career - indicating that he was highly-regarded by the biggest clubs in world football.

With his career winding down the powerful striker agreed to join Blackburn Rovers in 2000 before spending nearly two years at Ewood Park.

Of course that wouldn't be the last time that he was seen by supporters with Hughes going in to enjoy a spell as manager of the club.

Tugay spent a large chunk of his career with Galatasaray in Turkey before heading to the United Kingdom with Rangers.

After a year at Ibrox the midfielder moved to Blackburn Rovers where many expected him to only stay for a year or two.

As it turned out, Tugay ended up staying at the club for eight years before retiring from the game in the summer of 2009 at the age of 38.

His final appearance for Blackburn Rovers came on May 24, 2009 in a 0-0 draw with West Bromwich Albion - a game that he played at the impressive age of 38 years 09 months 00 days.
