Football League World's Charlton Athletic fan pundit Robert Smith has offered his thoughts after creative midfielder Jonny Williams was ruled out with injury.

After last night's defeat to Bristol City, Lee Bowyer confirmed that the Welshman will now miss at least two months of action with the knee problem, and Smith believes it could have a huge impact on their season.

"It’s a massive blow," the regular punter told Football League World.

"He really has been in the form of his life. He’s so pivotal to what we do attacking-wise on the counter with his pace and direct running.

"With five assists, and just starting to add more of a goal threat, to then combine that with him joining another two players with serious knee injuries the timing couldn’t be any worse."

Williams first made the move to South East London as a free agent in the January transfer window, with the Addicks still in League One, but has since gone on to rack up six assists in 30 appearances, with five of those coming this season.

Still only 26, his career has been badly hampered by various knocks, making just 70 appearances for Crystal Palace in just over seven years, frequently being shipped out on loan.

The defeat to the Robins was a dramatic one, with Charlton leading until 15 minutes from time, when Famara Diedhiou notched an equaliser before Josh Brownhill fired home a winner in the 98th minute.

It leaves them sat in tenth place in what will still be classed as a successful start to the season.
