Brentford achieved back to back wins for the first time this season last night, as they stunned Steve Cooper's Swansea side to win 3-0 at the Liberty Stadium.

An own goal by Swansea's Jake Bidwell, and strikes by Bryan Mbeumo and Said Benrahma - a sensational curling effort - secured the three points for Thomas Frank's side.

The season so far has been one of inconsistency for the Bees, as they sit 12th in the Championship table with five wins, three draws and five defeats.

A poor run of form for the West London side, that saw them pick up just two wins in their first eight Championship games, saw Frank under intense pressure from the Brentford fanbase to step down from his role, especially seeing as the Bees were tipped for the play-offs before the season began.

But as the pressure mounted, particularly after the 2-0 defeat to Preston North End at Deepdale on September 14th, Brentford's form started to pick up.

They have lost just once in the league since then; a 1-0 defeat to Sabri Lamouchi's Nottingham Forest.

There are parallels that can be drawn from last season, when Thomas Frank was promoted from assistant manager to head coach, after Dean Smith's departure to Aston Villa.

The Dane took charge on the 16th October 2018. For the next month and a half, the Bees went on a shocking run of one win, one draw and eight defeats.

Understandably, the scrutiny was high, and fans thought Frank was not the right man for the job.

However, the 46-year-old turned it around with a 7-game unbeaten run that stretched from mid-December to the start of February. His side picked up 42 of their 62 points from December until May.

Although Brentford fans were disappointed with their eventual finishing position of 11th, there was confidence that this season their side would be the one to watch.

If history is anything to go on, it would not be surprising if Brentford now go on an impressive run, and for Frank to prove the doubters wrong.

With Ollie Watkins and Said Benrahma being the stand out performers for the Bees, Brentford could be back in reach of the play-off places if they are consistent enough on the pitch.

The win against Swansea outlined that they are more than capable of outplaying the best sides in the division.

An upcoming West London Derby against in-from QPR awaits next Monday at Loftus Road, and that could be a season defining game for Thomas Frank.
