Football League World's Charlton Athletic fan pundit Robert Smith has spoken about the timely return of Lyle Taylor to the first team fold, with the striker having finally made his return this weekend against Middlesbrough for the Addicks.

Taylor of course suffered a knee injury which has kept him out of action since late September, and as a result curtailed the striker's strong form, in which he netted five goals in his first six Championship outings.

His return will certainly be a welcome boost for the Addicks, with Lee Bowyer's men having now gone eight league games in a row without picking up a victory, representing their worst run of the campaign by far.

We caught up with Smith late last week to discuss Taylor's long awaited return to first team action, and here is what the Charlton fan pundit had to say on the matter:

"He's been missed massively, you cannot put into words how much of an emphasis he has on this team, not just in the goals he scores, as Bonne has covered for his absence admirably, but it’s more his overall game and the fact that he offers a real outlet for us.

"We haven’t been bad without him generally but his return is a major boost.

"He’ll go straight back into his role leading the line and working the channels.

"The talisman is back."

Smith then talked up the prospect of Taylor starting up front alongside Macauley Bonne, who has also been in fine form of late for the Addicks:

"The potential of that partnership is exciting, both have goals in them and the ability to work off the ball, so it will be interesting to see how they combine together.

"It’s a fine balance but I am confident that Bowyer and the team will get it right."

Taylor's return will certainly provide a timely boost for the Addicks as they seek to address their current run of form and subsequently make another ascent back up the league table.

Meanwhile, Bowyer's side are back on home turf tomorrow night as they take on Huddersfield Town at the Valley.
