Swansea head coach Steve Cooper has confirmed that winger Jordan Garrick has been ruled out for around three months after suffering a hamstring injury in training.

The 21-year-old made his senior breakthrough at the Liberty Stadium earlier this season with a string of substitute appearances, while he also netted his first goal for the club during the EFL Cup victory over Cambridge.

Cooper has a wide array of attacking options at his disposal, which means Garrick's playing time has been somewhat limited, but he has still shown glimpses of quality during seven first-team appearances this campaign.

However, speaking to the club website, Cooper has now confirmed that Garrick has joined defender Joe Rodon on the injury table after being ruled out for a significant period following what appeared to initially be an innocuous injury.

“It was so innocuous as well," Cooper said.

"It was a training ground muscle injury, and when the scan results came back we were all surprised. It’s a tendon in the hamstring I think. But it happens in professional football. It has come at the wrong time for him, not that there is a right time, but he is an upbeat lad."

This injury has come at a disappointing time for Garrick as he would have previously been riding a wave of confidence following his impressive first-team displays this season, but he has now suffered a setback in his promising progress.

The wide-man clearly possesses raw ability on the flank, while his natural pace means he is capable of causing real problems for Championship defences, and he proved this when he won a penalty against QPR earlier this campaign.

Swansea fans would have identified many similarities between Garrick and Daniel James, who excelled at the club last season before his summer move to Manchester United, and it is a shame that Garrick will now need to wait before following in James' footsteps at the Liberty Stadium.

The winger must now ensure he bounces back even stronger from this injury, as he will be desperate not to lose too much ground in the progress he has made so far this term, while he can still make an impact in the second half of the season if the recovery goes well.

This should now be Garrick's aim as he begins his recovery alongside fellow academy product Rodon. It will benefit both players to be recovering at a similar pace together, even though it is far from an ideal situation, and Swansea will be hoping that this helps them both back to full fitness sooner rather than later.
