Swansea City continued their unbeaten away run in the Championship with Sam Surridge scoring a late winner during the 2-1 victory over Wigan on Saturday afternoon.

Steve Cooper's side had taken the lead courtesy of Nathan Dyer's strike, but Kieffer Moore then scored from the spot for the hosts before half-time, and Surridge then nodded home late on to seal a precious win.

Swansea can consider themselves lucky to have left the DW Stadium with three points following a relatively unconvincing performance against the Latics, but they were clinical in the final third when it mattered to seal back-to-back wins.

The Welsh side will now be high in confidence after building on their derby success against Cardiff, and they have Surridge to thank for continuing the winning feeling after he nodded home Connor Roberts' cross in stoppage time.

The Bournemouth loanee has found playing time quite hard to come by following his summer move, but he has now made a considerable impact from the bench in his last two appearances to cement his place in Cooper's plans.

He delivered an important cameo showing from the bench during the win over Cardiff where he really mucked in for his side, while he was then the hero at the DW Stadium following his introduction in the 79th minute.

The fact Surridge has now been brought on from the bench over fellow striker Borja Baston suggests the England U21 international has possibly moved above the Spaniard in Cooper's plans, despite Baston's impressive start to the season.

The forward was in prolific form back in August when he scored five goals in his first five games, but he has only managed one goal since then and has now lost his place in the side to Andre Ayew.

It now appears that Surridge's impressive displays have seen Baston move even further down the pecking order, and the former Atletico Madrid man will now need to work extremely hard to prove himself to the Swansea boss.

This could prove to be a difficult task with Ayew having shown his strong ability when leading the line in recent weeks, while Surridge will now be bursting with confidence following his excellent header at the death against Wigan.

It now looks very much possible that Surridge will become a prominent figure for the Swans following his slow start to life at the club, while Baston's future at the club is becoming increasingly unclear following his recent omission from the side.
