Kyle Naughton has quietly been one of Swansea City's most consistent performers since he joined the south Wales outfit when they were in the Premier League back in January 2015.

The former Tottenham man may not have been a particularly stand-out player during his five years at the Liberty Stadium, but he has regularly provided the source of solid displays on either side of defence for the Swans throughout his Welsh stint.

Over the last two seasons, Naughton has started the campaign as a back-up option for Graham Potter and then Steven Cooper, but the full-back then quickly worked his way into the plans of both bosses before going on to play a key role in both campaigns.

The defender made a total of 38 appearances under Potter last season, while he has become a reliable figure this term by making 29 appearances in all competitions with nine games of the Championship season still to play after the fixture suspension.

Naughton's defensive flexibility means he was used to fill in for both Jake Bidwell and Connor Roberts during the early weeks of the campaign, but he has managed to oust Roberts from the starting line-up in recent months following his consistent form.

The 31-year-old has now been named in the starting line-up for 12 of Swansea's last 13 league matches, with Naughton offering magnificent composure on the ball in the right-back slot while also adding some much-needed experience to the side.

His recent performances will now have left Swansea facing a big decision over his future this summer, with Naughton's current contract set to expire at the end of the season following five-and-a-half seasons at the Liberty Stadium side.

It could be considered an easy move for Swansea to release Naughton given he will still be earning Premier League wages at the club, but the full-back has offered such a reliable presence for the Swans this season that it will now be hard to let him go.

Swansea found themselves in a similar situation last season as Wayne Routledge earned himself a new deal by establishing himself as a key figure during the second half of the season, and there is every chance that Naughton could do the same.

The right-back's potential new deal could certainly hinge on whether Swansea manage to seal an unlikely promotion when the season resumes, but the Welsh club should even consider offering Naughton extended terms if they remain in the second tier.

Naughton may not earn glittering plaudits for his performances in Cooper's side, but he now performs an essential role for the team.
