Swansea City defender Connor Roberts will be returning to the Liberty Stadium brimming with confidence after playing a key role during Wales' qualification for Euro 2020 over the past week.

Roberts started in the right-back slot for his nation's two matches against Azerbaijan and Hungary, with Wales winning both clashes with some comfort to seal automatic qualification for next summer's Championships.

The Swansea full-back looked at his best on the right flank as he delivered two solid defensive performances, while he also showcased the attacking outlet he can offer by making a considerable contribution to Wales' attacking play.

These positive showings could not have come at a better time for Roberts given that he has been left out of Swansea's starting line-up in recent matches, but he will surely be knocking on the door for a recall following his international performances.

The Swans have now gone unbeaten for three matches in the Championship following victories over Cardiff and Wigan before a draw against Sheffield Wednesday, and head coach Steve Cooper has opted to play Kyle Naughton at right-back in these games.

Naughton used his experience and defensive stability to produce an impressive performance against Cardiff back in late October, and he has managed to keep Roberts out of the side since by rarely putting a foot wrong at the back.

This is the first time Roberts' place in the Swansea side has come under any serious threat since he first established himself at the start of last season, but he will surely now fancy his chances of breaking back into the team against Millwall on the weekend.

Roberts is a player who is clearly confident in his abilities, and he will know that he is the best right-back option at the club when he is playing at his best, so he needs to make sure he proves this when Cooper eventually recalls him to the side.

The 24-year-old was one of those to drop out of the side following Swansea's stuttering run of form back in September and October, but he will soon re-enter a newly confident side with two impressive international performances under his belt.

This could now be the time for Roberts to re-establish himself in the right-back role, even though this might be slightly harsh on Naughton, but Roberts will know he is simply too good to be left on the Swansea bench.
