Birmingham have been in terrific form over the last few weeks and currently sit eighth in the Championship table.

They have won their last four straight games against Rotherham United, Stoke City, Reading and Sheffield Wednesday.

Monk has turned the Blues from potential relegation strugglers into promotion contenders and his side are currently on an 11 match unbeaten run in the league.

With the January transfer window fast approaching, however, there is one position that still looks far more fallible than the others that the Birmingham boss should be looking to fix.

That position is in goal.

Lee Camp moved to St. Andrews in the Summer amidst a stand-off between the club and first-choice David Stockdale.

As a result, he has found himself between the sticks whilst Stockdale has been sent out on loan and although he has performed adequately in recent weeks there is still a huge question mark hanging over his ability.

Who should replace him?

The best replacement for Camp and to start in goal for the Blues does not currently operate in the second tier.

I am talking about Sunderland's impressive number one Jon McLaughlin.

He only moved down from Hearts in the summer but has quickly proven to be one of the Football League's most impressive stoppers.

Keeping four clean-sheets in League One this season, he has been the solid foundation on which Jack Ross has been able to build a promotion push.

A great communicator, solid distributor and capable of extraordinary saves he is an unearthed gem of a 'keeper waiting for a Championship club to unearth him, and Birmingham should be that club.
