It hasn’t exactly been a season to remember for Sheffield Wednesday supporters and their 2017/18 campaign is petering out with the Owls having very little left to play for other than professional pride.

The South Yorkshire-based club have been in decent form recently, winning their last three games to ensure that they don’t become embroiled in a relegation battle following a season of struggle.

The Owls have reached the play-offs during the last two seasons and their woes of the last nine months won’t have set well with a bunch of supporters who are among the most ardent in the Championship.

With the club boasting an ambitious owner it seems likely that he will give boss Jos Luhukay funds to bolster his squad during the summer, which could mean that certain players leave the club too.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke looks at two players who could begin the summer clear-out at Hillsborough…

The striker hasn’t really hit the same heights at Sheffield Wednesday as he has at the other clubs for which he has played, and the Owls could be set to cash in on the underperformer this summer.

Rhodes has netted just four times this season for Wednesday and the club might look to sell him in order to raise funds for a new talisman.

The Scotsman is out of contract during the summer and it seems highly unlikely that he will be offered a new one at Hillsborough.

The 32-year-old hasn’t featured a great deal under Luhukay and it would appear that the fan favourite will be on his way out of the club during the summer months.
