Everybody connected with Burton Albion would of snapped your hand off before a ball was kicked this season if you told them that they would stay in the Championship by a single point.

The Brewers' ultimate aim at the beginning of the season surely would have been survival, and that's exactly what Nigel Clough and his players achieved.

After losing their final game of the season at home to Reading 4-2, Burton ended the season with 52 points in 20th position, just a point ahead of Blackburn Rovers who found themselves relegated on the final day despite beating Brentford at Griffin Park.

One of Burton's biggest problems this season has been the lack of goals scored, as they only found the back of the net on 49 occasions.

With only six teams having a worse goal scoring record than the Brewers, Nigel Clough will be looking ahead to the summer transfer window to bring in firepower up top to help Burton push on next season.

One player who the Burton manager should turn to is Bury striker James Vaughan, after having a terrific season in front of goal for the Shakers ,where he found the net on 24 occasions, he would be a good fit for Burton solving their goal scoring problems.

Vaughan has proved himself at League One level with a team who struggled this term, and with the right service could certainly do a job in the league above.

Burton are also light in the goalkeeping department as well following the release of Jon McLaughlin this week.

Leaving them with only Stephen Bywater and the inexperienced Harry Campbell, Clough will surely be looking to bring in another keeper ahead of the new campaign, and he should turn to the experienced free agent Anders Lindegaard, following his release from Preston North End.

Lindegaard who has past experience in the Premier League with Manchester United, and is capped at international level by Denmark, would certainly provide healthy competition for Stephen Bywater for the number one jersey.
