Luton Town manager Graeme Jones will know he has a task on his hands if he wants to stay in the Championship, with his side in 21st place in the table, just two points above the relegation zone.

Jones must feel he needs to act, with us here at Football League World exclusively reporting that the Hatters are considering a January move for Torquay United striker Jamie Reid, who has notched an impressive 14 goals so far in the league.

So would Reid prove a good addition at Kenilworth Road? Is he needed?

We discuss..........

"This is exactly the sort of signing they should be making.

"The reality is that Luton simply can't compete with the vast majority of Championship sides when it comes to buying players because they don't have the budget.

"So, they have to scour the lower leagues for bargains and be prepared to take a chance on players.

"And, Reid fits into that category. He seems to have matured a lot at Torquay recently and whilst you have to take into consideration how big a step up this would be, we've seen other players do it in the past.

"It's a pretty low-risk move from the Hatters and one that could have big benefits down the line."

Josh Cole

“If Luton can get a deal over the line for Reid during the January transfer window, it may turn out to be somewhat of a coup given the forward’s escapades for Torquay United this season.

“Arguably the Gulls’ stand-out performer, the 25-year-old has found the back of the net on 14 occasions in the National League and looks as if he has all the ingredients needed to thrive at a higher level.

“Whilst Reid doesn’t have any previous experience of Championship football, there is no reason why cannot hit the ground running at Kenilworth Road.

“With the Hatters looking to establish themselves as a mainstay in the second-tier, they may find it beneficial to bolster their attacking options in January and thus Reid could fit the bill.”

“I’m torn on this potential transfer deal - Luton need to find a player who can score goals in the Championship, as the likes of James Collins and Elliot Lee have flattered to deceive so far.

“Reid has been in excellent form for Torquay this season, helping the Gulls cement their place in the National League play-off spots.

“He has everything you want for a striker at that level - he’s quick, strong, good in the air and loves playing on the shoulder of the last man.

“But the step up is huge, and whether he could replicate that form three leagues higher is another question. Very few players have made the step up before.”
