‘The sort of player all clubs should be built around’ – Many Sheffield Wednesday fans excited by one man’s display v Wycombe

Sheffield Wednesday beat relegation rivals Wycombe to move out of the Championship bottom three last night and the performance of centre-back Chey Dunkley has drawn an excited response from many fans.

Goals from Jordan Rhodes and Adam Reach were enough to hand the Owls the victory at Hillsborough – meaning caretaker boss Neil Thompson has now won three of his last four games.

Two of those have been clean sheets and Wednesday did well to negate the Chairboys’ attacking threats last night, allowing them just two shots on target all evening.

Thompson used a three centre-back system, with Tom Lees on the right, Osaze Urhoghide on the left, and Dunkley playing centrally.

The latter arrived from Wigan in the summer and has featured eight times after missing much of his debut season due to injury.

Owls supporters are yet to see the aerial threat that has helped him scored 20 times in his EFL career but his defensive qualities were on show last night.

Dunkley won nine of his 14 defensive duels, made four clearances, three interceptions, and one tackle (Sofascore).

It was far from a perfect performance, however, and he wasn’t great on the ball – making just 26 touches all evening, losing possession 12 times and connecting with just five of his 15 passes (Sofascore).

Were each of these 20 former Sheffield Wednesday players left or right footed?
