Birmingham City are closing in on the signing of Scott Hogan, with the forward poised to join on loan from rivals Aston Villa until the end of the season.

That's according to Telegraph reporter John Percy, who stated that the 27-year-old will link up with Blues for the remainder of the campaign after a spell with Stoke was cut short.

Villa loaned the Ireland international to the Potters during the summer but he has seriously struggled to make an impact, with boss Michael O'Neill only using Hogan as a sub on three occasions since he took over in November.

Therefore, they were happy to let the ex-Brentford man go and he is expected to finalise a deal to Pep Clotet's side in the coming days.

Given his struggles at Stoke and with Villa over the past few years, it's fair to say this potential signing has underwhelmed some Birmingham fans - even though the club need a striker, although some feel he can do a job.
