Andrea Stramaccioni, the former Inter Milan coach, has been linked with the Villa job after the Play-Off Final defeat.

Stramaccioni could come in to provide a bit of stability to the club after the disappointing end to the campaign, with Steve Bruce linked to other Championship jobs as the realities of Villa's financial situation hits home.

Villa are going to have to be limited in their spending in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations and keep the wage budget low. Some of their best players are likely to leave in order to ease their financial issues. Therefore, loanees and free agents are likely to be their main form of business over the coming seasons as they build a sustainable financial platform.

Here are three players who should join in the summer if the Italian joins...

Huth is a free agent due to his contract running out with Leicester and he could help fill the hole John Terry's departure leaves behind. He is a Premier League winner from his time with the Foxes, so he has the qualities to replace the Villa captain.

The only potential issue is what his wage demands would be, but they will struggle to find someone as suited for the role in this transitional period that they are starting. They need a leader at the back to keep that defensive solidity they relied on last season because this could be a tough period with plenty of departures and they need to make it as seamless as possible to have as little impact on results.

Odubajo is another free agent that would be suited to the club, although he has been offered a new contract by Hull. Injuries have stopped him from playing for the past 18 months, but he is a talented full-back. His wage demands are unlikely to be high and he could return to being one of the best full-backs in the division once he has fully recovered and got consistent playing time behind him.

They do have Ahmed Elmohamady for the right-back role, but he could play further forward and they have the potential to be a deadly partnership down the right side with Odubajo doing overlapping runs.

Bahoken was heavily linked with the club prior to the Play-Off Final defeat, but he would still be a suitable signing especially because he is a free agent this summer. The Championship would be a much easier league for him to adapt to and he could become their main goalscorer or at least provide competition for that role.

He is attracting plenty of interest across Europe, so Villa could struggle to persuade him but Stramaccioni's arrival might help in that regard due to his status outside of England in comparison to Bruce.
