Jos Luhukay has had to contend with a remarkable injury crisis since he was appointed as Sheffield Wednesday boss which has given him the chance to assess all areas of his squad.

The Owls are missing key players in every position, with Kieran Westwood, Joost van Aken and Tom Lees players who would normally start for Wednesday in goal and at the back.

Further forward, it's even worse. Key midfield trio Sam Hutchinson, Barry Bannan and Kieran Lee are all out whilst Fernando Forestieri, Steven Fletcher and Gary Hooper are absentees as well.

All in all, it means Luhukay is in a tricky situation but he has managed to pick up positive results in the meantime, including an important 2-0 win over Derby County last time out in the Championship that eased any relegation fears.

With the ex-Gladbach man now focusing on building a squad that can compete for promotion next season, some of those coming in will have given him food for thought.

Here we look at two players who could have a role to play in the years to come.

The energetic midfielder made his first start for Wednesday in that win over the Rams and he impressed with his willingness to drive from deep and athleticism.

The 21-year old has been spoken about as a future talent for several years now and after loan spells in the lower leagues it appears he is ready to step up and play regularly now.

Whilst there is still speculation surrounding his long-term future given a new contract hasn't been signed, Wedensday ought to do all they can to keep him at Hillsborough as he looks ready to make an immediate impact.

Another player who has benefited from the ridiculous injury crisis at Wednesday is defender O'Grady.

He played the full 90 minutes in a recent win over Carlisle in the FA Cup and looked assured on the whole. Even though fellow young defender Jordan Thorniley has been given the nod ahead of the Irishman in recent weeks, O'Grady is still a real talent.

The 20-year old excelled for the U23 side last season, playing a key role in what was a successful campaign and was rewarded with a new contract.
