Sheffield Wednesday enjoyed a strong Easter period with a draw at leaders Norwich followed by a win over play-off hopefuls Bristol City.

In truth, it should’ve been six points with the Canaries snatching a draw late on thanks to a great goal from a very debatable free-kick.

Those performances proved that the Owls under Steve Bruce are capable of mixing it with the best in the league and it should leave supporters optimistic about the future under the experienced boss.

However, there will also be a frustration and a feeling of what might’ve been for Wednesday and forward Fernando Forestieri reflects that perfectly.

The former Watford man has proven himself to be brilliant at this level over the years and has established himself as the main man at Hillsborough.

Whilst there is a lot of talent and experience in the squad, the reality is that nobody for the Yorkshire outfit can provide that bit of magic like he does.

That was evident at Carrow Road when he scored one of the goals of the season to bring the Owls level and his overall performance was superb too.

Yet, the fact he has only played 23 times this season, with many of those as a substitute means that Wednesday haven’t been able to call on that quality often enough.

He has had several fitness issues whilst suspensions have also meant it’s been a very stop-start campaign for the 29-year-old.

Again, there will be two ways of looking at that for fans and the player himself. On one hand, if Forestieri remains at Hillsborough he can be the man to fire Bruce’s side into promotion contention.

But, on the other, you can look back in frustration and feel that if the ex-Siena man had played a full season he would easily have made up the four points that the Owls currently trail the top six by.

Forestieri seems the sort to back his ability and he would certainly feel that he could’ve made a decisive difference for this team.

So, whilst things finally look good for Sheffield Wednesday moving forward, the brilliance of their maverick forward against Norwich was a reminder that this season could’ve worked out a lot differently had he stayed fit.
