Following their defeat at Leeds United on Saturday, the focus for Steve Bruce and Sheffield Wednesday will switch to preparing for the next campaign.

Whilst it's disappointing for the Owls that they won't make a return to the top-flight this season, the reality is that it wasn't even considered a possibility when Bruce arrived.

The instant impact he has made bodes well and there is a real belief and optimism around Hillsborough that suggests the fans feel they've got the right man in charge.

Therefore, the next four games will give the experienced boss a chance to start planning for next season and assessing the players in his squad.

And, one man who needs to do more to convince Bruce he should have a future in Yorkshire is Fernando Forestieri.

The 29-year-old has been an outstanding player for the Owls since arriving from Watford in 2015 and for two years under Carlos Carvalhal many would argue he was one of the better players in the league.

So, Bruce will be aware that he has a player that can deliver at this level and he will know that getting Forestieri back to that level would provide the team with something they don't have in terms of creativity and quality.

However, it's a two-way street and right now you'd have to say that the former Italy U21 international isn't doing enough.

He hasn't managed to force his way into the team and has allowed others to get ahead of him in the pecking order.

And, when he has featured, mainly as a sub, he hasn't done enough, with one goal in nine games under Bruce not a good enough return for someone with his talent.

So, even though Wednesday don't have anything to play for in terms of fighting to win promotion or avoid relegation in the final month of the season, these four games will mean a lot to Bruce.

It's now down to the players to prove they want to be part of what looks like it could be a brighter future at Sheffield Wednesday, with Forestieri one man who needs to step up.
